make a flag - donate $10 - make a difference
The Flag Project: We are building a tribute to Rick Hansen for his 25th Anniversary Relay and in the process are raising funds and hopefully awareness of this cross Canada endeavor. |

Our tribute is in the tradition of Tibetan prayer flags whose messages of peace, compassion, strength and wisdom are carried by the wind to all beings of the earth. Our flags will carry the messages created by you and “made” by us to Rick and all the “difference makers” of the 25th Anniversary Relay.
We will greet the finale of the relay here in Vancouver May 22nd with our amazing string of flags created by people from all over with their messages of hope and support and encouragement.
We are asking for a donation for each flag so we can also greet Rick with a BIG donation to his foundation. The donation for each printed flag is $10*.
What you do: You create the art and the message on a standard 8.5 x 11 piece of white paper with whatever medium you choose – crayons, markers, paint, stickers, magazine bits, stencils, photos, etc. You can do this in our store or in your home or at your school.
What we do & How are the flags made: Using out in-store Direct to Garment Digital Printerwe can take photos and drawn images and all manner of full colour graphics and print them directly onto fabric. This is how we will create your flag. We will be posting photos of the flags with their messages of encouragement to our website for all of Canada to see so feel free to sign it!
You don’t have to be in Vancouver to do this: We can do this all via email if you are not in Vancouver. You send us your art and donate via PayPal and we will produce your flag and hang it up in the store to become part of the project.
Who is Make and why are we doing this: Make is the evolution of Justin Stitches, a Vancouver company that has been around for 25 years. Our retail store on Granville Island has recently been re-branded as Make and we and our customers and our suppliers and artisans MAKE great things.
25 years ago when Rick Hansen finished his relay at Oakridge Mall we were there – we had just opened our first store in Oakridge a few months before. At the time we did a small fundraising effort for Rick which matched our size and abilities and now all these years later we want to do something on a much bigger scale. We want to engage our community in creating a fantastic piece of art made of many, many pieces of art and hearts that honours this amazing guy and all the difference makers who are participating in his relay. AND we want to raise some funds for his foundation.
Sponsor some kids to do this: We already have a number of individuals and businesses who have stepped up to sponsor kids to do this. Are you interested? Please contact us and we can tell you how – it’s easy. You can either sponsor whole classes of kids to do it through a school or individual kids who come into the store.
Questions or ideas: Please feel free to contact me, Stacy Hall. I am the owner of Justin Stitches which operates both Make and Promosapien.
