Description
"Sakitowin" is the Cree word for love, affection or charity. It is pronounced sa-gee-toe-win. It represents a concept of love that is expressed through actions of care for one another, communities, and the world, and is a core value in many Indigenous communities and organizations. The Love for One Another Tote Bag by Bada Jean tells this story in her distinctive illustration style.
Bada Jean is a Nêhiyaw (Cree), Dene and Welsh visual artist from Treaty 6 and 7 territory. Bada Jean is a painter working with acrylic, spray paint and traditional materials, as well as a digital illustrator. She hopes to share her culture with art, by using traditional imagery and language within her works in her own style.
