The Salmonberry plant is a juicy red/orange berry from the Pacific Northwest loved by Indigenous peoples and used in jams and teas. According to storytellers in the Chinook First Nation the coyote was “instructed to place these berries in the mouth of each salmon he caught in order to ensure continued good fishing” and for that reason this berry came to be known as the Salmonberry. The Salmon Berry Girl Tote Bag by Bada Jean celebrates this well loved berry.
Bada Jean is a Nêhiyaw (Cree), Dene and Welsh visual artist from Treaty 6 and 7 territory. Bada Jean is a painter working with acrylic, spray paint and traditional materials, as well as a digital illustrator.
